Lille Métropole (France)

Lille Métropole (1,100,000 inhabitants), situated in northern France close to the border with Belgium builds the fourth-largest urban agglomeration in the country after Paris, Lyon and Marseille. Lille is a former textile manufacturing centre and today with over 100,000 students one of the first educational centres in France. In 2004 Lille was elected European Capital of Culture.

Since it was created, Lille Métropole Communauté urbaine has established the link between the means of transport, developing the area and the quality of life of the local population. After having created the world’s first automatic metro and modernising its tram system, it is now focusing on developing a custom needs-adapted public transport service to reach its target of 200 journeys in public transport by 2015.

Lille Métropole seeks therefore to gain knowledge and experience from the other partners in particular as concerns Marketing and Mobility Awareness so as to Intelligent Transportation Technology.

Within BAPTS the city highlights the local achievements in new equipment to improving the information to passengers and an advanced priority system in the new high-level service bus routes, the marketing and communication related initiatives in the setting in place and service of the new ticketing system as well as the new equipments aiming at improving the security in transports.
